I have experience teaching and tutoring math and science to youth. I also have a diverse background with much to offer including over 20 years of experience developing and managing successful IT projects for large corporations. I currently teach Algebra II/Trigonometry and Trigonometry and Advanced Math at Rich South High School in Richton Park, IL.

I have earned a BS and an MS in Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and the University of Michigan, respectively. I also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching program from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education in the spring of 2011. I have passed the Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) Basic Skills Test and APT Tests. And, I am endorsed in Math and Computer Science for grades 6-12.

I am dedicated to teaching students with diverse backgrounds and educational abilities. The curriculum I have studied at USC emphasizes the importance of accommodating diverse student needs. This includes reflecting on student learning and adjusting instruction, providing scaffolding and support, creating a safe environment for students to make inquiries, and encouraging all learners to reach their maximum potential.

I encourage classroom learning through collaborative learning tasks, guided instruction, hands-on activities, and technology. I have learned that keeping students actively involved in classroom discussions, asking open-ended questions, and teaching students how to apply math concepts in multiple contexts encourages the use of higher level mathematical skills. In addition, I understand that using assessment results to monitor student progress and tailor instruction is critical for students, as well as my own personal development.

I have completed 20 weeks of student teaching at Thornton Township High School and Columbia Central Middle School. I have taught sixth grade math students as part of the Ford Heights Upper Grade Center Saturday School Program. I have observed students from the seventh through twelfth grades in various math classrooms at Rich East High School and O.W. Huth Middle School. Through my student teaching and classroom experiences at USC, I have prepared many lesson plans that allow me to provide guided instruction on various complex mathematical topics.

My wife, Dianne, and I have been married for 20 years and live in the south suburban Chicago-land area. We have three children: Ayanna (17), William II (15), and John (9). My family and I are spiritually rooted; we enjoy sports and watching movies as a family. I also enjoyblogging and running and have completed several races including severl half marathons: The Illinois Half Marathon (twice), the Calumet Memorial Mini Marathon and the Lewis and Clark Half Marathon.

Being a hard working and well-rounded educator, I welcome an opportunity to share with you how my experience and tutoring skills would benefit you or your mathematics student. Feel free to call or send me an email.

Thank you,

Mr. Daniels
